 OUR MISSION VISION

Calvary Protestant Church supports eight missionaries and eleven missions organizations annually. Special gifts are also disbursed to missions projects and needy missionaries from the Moon Memorial Fund, Ladies Missions Groups and designated gifts. The projected missionary giving for the current fiscal year is approximately 19% of the general budget. The Missions Committee has set a goal of increasing the missions budget so that it would be 25% of the general budget.

Calvary believes that the spreading of the gospel in our community and around the world is urgent. The gospel is desperately needed everywhere in the world. The fields are ripe for harvest and we can be a part of God’s harvest team. It is our desire that an increased percentage of our members become personally involved with the work of missions through prayer, giving, writing to our missionaries and going on short-term mission trips.

Missionaries who we help to support are:

Tom & Peg Corcoran - Trans World Radio, NC
Calvary Church is home to Tom and Peg. Commissioned to the mission field by Calvary Church in 1984, Tom and Peg spent the first eight years of their missionary service in Sri Lanka with Trans World Radio. In 1992, they moved to the Caribbean Island of Bonaire and in 1997 moved to Miami, FL to establish TWR’s regional office there.
Presently, they serve at TWR Headquarters in Cary, NC. Tom serves as International Director for North and South America. Peg serves as International Coordinator for Project Hannah, a ministry touching woman around the world. They reside in Apex, NC.

Don and Jan Erickson, EFCM, Kenosha, WI

Don and Jan have been missionaries with the Evangelical Free Church of America International Mission since 1969, first as teachers in a mission school in Africa and lately as coordinators of short-term mission teams.

Don is one of the Outreach English Class coordinators for the EFCA-IM. In this role he is required to do a lot of weekend travel as he trains teams of short-term missionaries to use English teaching as a method of evangelism and relationship-building for new churches being planted by missionaries and local churches in many countries. Don is also responsible for producing the English curriculum used by the teachers. He also writes the Bible-based reading lessons, devotional and training materials used by the teachers. In the past three years the EFCA-IM has sent out more than 80 teams of short-term missionary English teachers to 30 different countries.

Jan is president, CEO, CFO, mailroom clerk and printer for Missionary Prayer Letter Services of the EFCA-IM. She maintains the mailing lists for 60 different Free Church Missionaries. In this work she prints, stuffs, seals, sorts and mails about 90,000 letters each year. These letters go to the prayer team and financial support team members of those 60 missionaries. In spite of this being the age of high speed e-mail, people more than ever before want to be able to take time out to carefully read and pray over the news of their missionaries.

Please keep up the work of praying for us as we send short-term workers to help those on the front lines, and as we try to bring you the news from those on the field.

Ralph & Betty Essery - Northern Frontier Camp, NY
Ralph has served for many years with the Christian Service Brigade, mostly in the New York area. Currently he is the Executive Director of Northern Frontier Camp. Northern Frontier is located in the Lake George area of New York State. Ralph has spoken at our church several times and many are impressed with his demeanor and godliness.

This camp is a great Christian outreach to young boys through the high school age. Many of our own have gone to camp there and still "brag" about having hiked up Mount Marcy, the highest mountain in New York State. None ever got chased by a bear.

Brian & Jenny Maret - Sudan Interior Mission, NC
Brian grew up in Calvary Church and he and Jenny went to serve as missionaries in Ethiopia after their schooling. They served there faithfully until the doors in Ethiopia were closed quite a few years ago. Since then, they have worked with the Sudan Interior Mission at the Missions headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Brian works as purchasing and shipping agent for missionary supplies and Jenny works in the SIM office.

Jack & Tina Raeside - Children's Bible Fellowship
Jack and Tina work with Children’s Bible Fellowship in the Bronx, NY, where Jack serves as Missionary Pastor of Beacon Church. Their desire is that Beacon would grow and become a site for future evangelism and church planting in the New York City area.
Throughout the year, the Raesides host groups of kids from CBF camps and local churches who take part in street evangelism and puppet ministries.  The Raesides live in Mt. Vernon, NY. They have four children.

Gary & Karen Shogren - Latin America Mission (Costa Rica)

Gary and Karen Shogren are serving with the Latin America Missions and live in San Jose, Costa Rica. In 1999, Gary became a professor of New Testament at Seminario ESEPA. He is also the Dean of the Faculty of Christian Theology, the Director of Graduate and Postgraduate programs and an academic Vice President.

ESEPA is a school for Pastoral studies. Today there are 400 full and part-time students. ESEPA is a home-grown product of Latin America Missions, offering a Masters of Arts in New Testament, Bachelors degrees in Bible diploma and certificate program.

The Shogrens are blest of the Lord with four children.

Missions Organization which we help support:

St. Paul’s House, New York City
St. Paul's House was started in 1945 by J.J.D. "Daddy" Hall and Creighton Dunlap, street evangelists operating out of an apartment on 45th Street. When they purchased their present location on 51st Street, their focus shifted to training Christian workers and reaching out to the homeless of the Times Square District and ministering to the many low-income families living in Hell's Kitchen. Today Rev. David Burns, who started serving at St. Paul's House in 1964, serves as the Executive Director. St. Paul's House operates as a mission with the same goal of training Christian workers and has developed food programs, a job start program and a transitional housing and discipleship program for a limited number of men. Residents are invited to live at St. Paul's for several months, and during their stay, they receive job and computer training, Bible study and discipleship classes, and addiction counseling. The food programs include a six-day breakfast soup kitchen and a one day food pantry. Gospel services are held daily. The Job Start Program specializes in computer training and includes GED classes and job-readiness seminars.
